lets hear it for love...
The other night was Diane's birthday. it was really nice, we had a sandwich exchange and lots of kids i love. Last night was the hat band show. we put in 45 or 50 kids names in a hat and drew them out in groups of four. the groups of four had one month to form a band and make at least three songs. my band was mel p., kevers, stan, and me. we had one practice, but kever just yelled at mel p. the whole time for being a mikestand and not singing. mel p. finally sang one line after that, "kever, why are you so annoying?" after that, mel p. dropped out, then stan dropped out. kever and i still wanted to do it, so we replaced the two of them with frankie the day before the show. we each wrote one song, switching instruments on each one. we recorded three songs at the end of our practice and put out a demo. we played last night. it was fun. after the show, there was a lil fire spinning, then my livng room turned into an insane dance party. people were skanking and crowd surfing to operation ivy, then people literally demolished the futon frame. eventually the fun turned sour, when a few roomates requested that "all you assholes shut the fuck up and get out." I woke up very early this morning and have been puttering around inside because i hate the rain. Y'know, I used to think that guilt is the worse feeling there is, but now I kow its regret. tomorrow the world...
Yesterday was possibly THE best day of my life. Certainly the best day that i can remember having in a LONG time. gloryhole played a show at abc no rio with snaked, stockyard stoics, and los gatos negros (who, by the way are amazing in their commitment to pretend they arent in the band. they wear costumes on stage, but everyone knows whos in it. after the show, telling my friend in the band i liked the set, she says, "oh that last band? i went for a walk. i must have missed them." weird. and funny.) it was a benefit for the shac 7, and it sold out, which was great. It was also Joey Ramone day, the fifth anniversary of his death, so gloryhole added sweettooth to be johnny ramone on guitar and we did an all ramones set, complete with accents, costumes and fake ramones style argument on stage. I have absolutely never played a show where people freaked out like that. watching the floor almost cave in while we played was amazing. I insisted we play oh oh I love her so. I scanned the crowd relentlessly. during our last song, I started crying. Afterwards, a mob of about 22 punx celebrated by eating chicken vindaloo on second ave., stopping by cbgbs to say happy joey ramone day to hilly kristal, trying to turn tricks/having a dance party on 53rd and 3rd, then going to rockaway beach to eat refried beans. what a perfect day. today I also got my appetite back and was able to really eat for the first time in practically a week. i gave out about 200 copies of my zine at the show too, and that was nice. Fuck everyone who didnt come to the show, you missed out. I also definitively decided what knuckle tattoos im getting, and as soon as my best friend gets back in town, she's going to stick and poke em on me. under one misguided notion...
Seeing tom frampton play the other night was cathartic. I'm glad I went, even though I had a terrible time. this saturday is joey ramone day, the day he died. My band, gloryhole, will be playing a show at abc no rio with snaked, los gatos negros and the stockyard stoics. in light of the holiday, were doing a VERY special surprise. the after the show, were turning tricks at 53rd and 3rd, eating refried beans in queens, hanging out at forrest hills high, then hitch hiking to rockaway beach. It would make me really happy if everyone i know comes out. I think it'll be the most fun thing I've ever done. I want to see your face there. Well, i got another stupid tattoo and finished a zine. give me your address and ill send you one for free. Current Music: bananas mermaid song | | Saturday, February 11th, 2006 | | 12:01 am |

HELP SUPPORT DANIEL MCGOWAN! ----------------------------- Daniel McGowan is an environmental and social justice activist, unjustly arrested and charged in federal court on multiple counts of arson, property destruction, and conspiracy, relating to two incidents that occurred in Oregon in 2001. Daniel asserts his innocence by pleading not guilty to all charges. He is facing a minimum of life in prison if convicted. Daniel is from New York, and has been an active member of the community, working on diverse projects such as the demonstrations against the Republican National Convention, Really Really Free Markets, and supporting political prisoners such as Jeff "Free" Luers and others. Daniel was a graduate student earning a Master's degree in acupuncture and was working at Women's Law, a nonprofit group that helps women in domestic abuse situations navigate the legal system, which is where he was arrested by federal marshals on December 7th, 2005. Daniel had originally been indicted separately, but his arrest comes in the context of a well-coordinated, multi-state sweep of numerous activists by the federal government, which has charged the individuals with practically every earth and animal liberation case left unsolved. Many of the charges, including Daniel's, are for cases whose statute of limitations were about to expire. In order to help Daniel, his family and friends have created a support network (Family and Friends of Daniel McGowan) to help fund Daniel’s legal representation, as well as to raise awareness about his case and make sure that he is emotionally supported throughout this process. Daniel was released on bail on January 25th, and is coming back to NYC. Despite his being on house arrest, his friends and family are thrilled that they can once again be with him and that he is not in jail. However, he still needs tons of support! Please come celebrate his release and show your support for him. Donations are kindly accepted at the door and inside the show for his legal defense costs. | | Tuesday, January 31st, 2006 | | 10:00 am |

i am still dressed like a newsie.
i havent written in so long that things have happened and changed so many times, i barely know where to start. ill try to give you a quick run through. first of all, my friends band hottpants, jukebox asked me to play drums with them on tour and i was super excited about it. i stole some booty shorts and made a screen and set up a shopw in philly and thought about learning the songs. second of all, gloryhole shows have been geting better and better and more fun. yay! third, they are making a movie about the germs. not a documentary, but one with actors and stuff. the title is something i was going to get tattooed on me, i havent decided if the movie will ruin the tattoo. the germs, (who, by the way, are the greatest punk band of all time) are playing a reunion show on dec. 10th at the continental. how would this happen, you ask? as you surely know the singer, Darby crash, aka Bobby pyn aka jan paul beahm died in 1982? well, the three remaining germs are playing, with the d-bag actor who plays darby in the movie filling in on singing. its the best and worst thing to ever happen to me. best, because, im going to try to get a REAL germs burn from on of the original germs, and ill get to see them play. worst, because it breaks several of my rules. no reunion shows, especially without all original members, and paying more than five or ten bucks for a show. (its 25 fucking dollars!) but what can i do, you know im going to go. then im going to fight the actor and go to jail. it'll be worth it. fourth, i think the hottpants tour is cancelled, and thats a huge bummer, but maybe there'll still be a show on new years with them. fifth, i hitchhiked to asheville, N.C. on a whim with amy, who is awesome and had a bad toothache the whole time. when we got here, she went to the hospital and gave a fake name. they said the tooth was helluv infected and the swelling was bending her airpipe. if she hadnt had come in within two or three days, she may have died. we couldnt decide how much of this was true, or was capatilistic westren medicine scare tactics to get her to do what they wanted. we decided it wasnt worth the risk. she stayed overnight, had surgery the next day, stayed another night and was discharged the next day. they let me stay in the room the whole time and that was cool. the whole time, i really started realizing how terrible westren medicine is. they feed you juice that the second ingredient is fructose corn syrup, and frozen green beans and instant mashed potatoes and expect you to heal? they give you painkillers that make you naseous and nausea medicine to fix that, and so on and so on. all to make money. the more drugs they give you, the more nights you stay, the more they make. luckily, lying about your name is easy and got amy free surgery, 2 nights stay and take home medicine. she came home with a five inch tube sewn into her mouth to drain pus. she let me remove it today. it was so fun. i got to cut the stitches ou of her gums. COOL! sixth, the kids here are making an amazing original musical about a scientist lost in the bermuda triangle. i saw dress rehearsel last night and it was amazing. show opens in two days. seventh, i miss home. | | Sunday, November 20th, 2005 | | 7:02 pm |

pieces of my friend are all over the front stoop. what the fuck?!?
so last night oscilatted between being amazing and totally fucked up. we put on a halloween cover band show, that i was pretty sure was going to be a complete disaster, considering the headliners couldnt make it and by 7:30 (the show was billed to start at 6:30) only about ten people were there. well, by 8:30, the place was packed with tons of kids in awesome costumes, including colin, who was a sea princess. y'know, like from da ocean?...gloryhole played first, and we did our best show ever. the descendents band played next, carolina and diane both proved to be rockstars, and i could barely play drums cos i was singing along so hard. screaming otter (screeching weasel) went on, and we pulled it off great. my arms were so tired. im never playing drums for three bands in a row again. alynda and barnabus did a johnny cash and june carter cover band, both in reversed gender roles, nate and jamie surprised us by playing a few billy bragg covers and to top it off, my favorite nyc band, crybaby macarthur, did an impromptu acoustic set. kids went nuts, and it was one of the best shows Ive ever been to at the jerk haus. the only things that made it crappy was that kate was really sick and had to leave right after gloryhole played. then, today, i found out that three of my roomates were on our front stoop, opening the door when two big dudes came up and demanded that one of my roomates give them her bag. she said no, and they stabbed her and dragged her down the steps. seems like she'll be okay, but had a big, 3 1/2 inch deep wound on her leg. she spent the night in the hospital, and as soon as i found out about it, i felt sick with guilt that i wasnt here. not like i couldve done anything, but its always hard not to self blame when fucked up shit happens to people you love. shes a tough cookie though. Thanks to everyone who played in bands, and humored hair brained last minute schemes. Current Music: jawbreaker | | Friday, October 28th, 2005 | | 5:39 pm |

getting older, but not much better
so i haven't really gotten birthday presents for years, so i usually just dont tell people its my birthday and let it pass unnoticed. but i dont celebrate any holidays but anniversaries, and a birthday is an anniversary of sorts, so i've decided to post my birthday wishlist here. I once read that yu're born aone, and thats how you should spend every birthday; alone. but i wasn't born alone. i was born with my family and friends all around me, helping me out and making sure i was o.k. so thats how id rather spend my birthdays from now on. without further ado, heres what i want. -4 fingered coffee mug. (one that i could fit 4 fingers in) -french press (crossed off list 'cos found one in the trash today) -whole bean coffee (preferably light roast) -mixtape -tattoo -drawing -drum key -22 of ballantine -kisses -gldfish -flask -suit -bike fixed haircut i hate working, so i wont encourage you to work to buy me things, so find or steal or make me stuff. or just send me a letter. also, i flake on lots of people's birthdays, even ones who ar very dear to me,(and sometimes i come through nicely)so i wont be offended if i dont get anything. also, my mom really deserves presents cos she's the one that had me. so if you want to send her a thank you note for having me, ill give you her address. (but dont send her hatemail if yu hate me) p.s. im twenty three on thursday, oct. twentieth. Current Music: gnat playing guitar, crybaby macarthur | | Wednesday, September 21st, 2005 | | 2:52 pm |

we're all sad he was revived...
I've realized the two things that make me happiest in the world is playing music and surfing. i went to Va. this week, saw my family and got to surf. i've also been playing music with these two other dreamboats, and im so excited about it. i just spent every cent i have in the world on cymbals. fuck rent and food and the subway. I've gotten some great mail lately and i need to do some serious catching up on the responses. also, kate didnt believe me when i said my mom was more hyper than bobby on coffee. now she believes me. my family rules. i need to get up to go to work in a few hours, but im just not sleepy. i even took a sleeping pill, but so far its not working. ive been filling in a few random days here and there at a science summer camp. i take 4-10 year olds on awesome field trips, like the museum, the wildlife preserve, and a tour of a ship that used to be sunk given by pirates! life rules. in the near future; zines, 7"s, and freight train trips to albany, NY. i moved into a new house and I love it, and its inhabitants. Diane and i are now 4- time roomates. it rules.(if only diane would hang out at home more) Current Music: blind willie | | Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 | | 1:24 pm |
we must bleed.
so last night, i drank at the williamsburg waterfront wih friends for jaques birthday. it was great, even though, my friends wouldnt let me break any bottles, which i love doing. i used hypnosis to get mona to buy me a be-ah. im going to go play drums, write letters, and give myself a stick and poke tonight. maybe tommorrow, ill make my own map of central park. y'know, like pretend theres not a map of it and just walk around explorin...anyone have a job for me? i need it to pay well, be easy, and i wont work for assholes or more than 3 days a week. and i want to be able to be smelly. is that too much to ask? theres always something happening, when youre in a punkhouse...
jeez, i havent written in awhile. since the last entry, i made it back to NYC. i moved into fort whitey, a punk house at the end of the 4 line. i am splitting a small room with diane and paying $175 a month. thats not so bad. i have 6 other roomates besides diane, and usually a few houseguests. the opther night, at abc no rio, some kid from atlanta asked me if i thought hed get arrested for sleeping in the park, and it was so nice to be able to give him a place to stay. it was only eleven months ago that i was walking around nyc, wondering what bench i would sleep on, when mt. mischief came to the rescue. its nice to repay the favor. i saw some shitty bands last night a drank some beer. now, im going to colins house for breakfast burritos, then to kellogs to hang out with luke and (hopefully) diane all day and drink coffee and eat french fries. p.s. im reading darby crash's biography right now and its so fucking good. | | Sunday, July 31st, 2005 | | 6:07 pm |
who cares what you do?
well, i made from denver, colorado all the way to lawrence, ks. in one day. only two rides. not bad. staying at the joe hill house, and im about to see jeff ott play at solidarity in a few hours. hes doing acoustic music/video presentation/book reading (according to the flyer). seems like the kids who went to the nyc show got gipped. i absolutely love the kids here and i know ill have a hard time leaving. but im ready to get home, see my new house, and enjoy whats left of the nyc summer. ive just got my fingers crossed that ill make the rest of this trip without getting arrested. thats really my only concern. p.s. i just dumperstered a "punk and disorderly video." seriously. 50 points.
